Photo Diary: Coachella Weekend #2

Words and photos by Madeline Keyes-Levine

Each year, the Indio-California music festival Coachella justifiably gets a bad rap. But, if you’re willing to brave the heat (and have some friends to insulate you against the bros and racist outfits) it can be a truly fun time full of amazing bands and great pals. There’s something kind of magical about being in the middle of the hot desert with terrible wifi and waking up with no plans except trekking out to see bands you love. Weekend 2 was a dusty three days of anti-Trump speeches, Prince tributes, and a surprising amount of glittery disco balls. ✿

The Yuma tent is a strange air-conditioned time warp with nice lights and couches for the questionably sober.

Sufjan Stevens had the most magical set full of shiny outfits, balloons, and waving tube men as he sang about death to choreographed dancing.
